Art Design in Film & TV

Art Design in Film & TV

Being in the entertainment field for over 2 years now, my work has sometimes seeped over into other, more interesting & creative departments, like Art and Set Decoration.

I’ve had the pleasure to see my creative work in things like Friends the Reunion, Tiger King vol. 2, the Emmys, and quite literally on the faces of some major celebrities! Even more than the fun of seeing my work on the big screen, I am diligent in getting the job done right and dedicated to making it look exactly how the Production Designer / Art Director intends it to be.

Whether that’s constructing custom Post-It notes to thinking on our feet morning-of show day to build the perfect custom New Years eyeglasses, I am committed to making sure that our intended aesthetic/look is achieved.

Friends the Reunion

For Friends the Reunion my main role was to recreate the iconic trivia board that the cast members would play and use for a large segment for the show. We went through over 30 different Post-It notes before realizing they simply do not make the same colors as they once did in the 90s when the show was created, so I improvised and hand-made our own.

I sourced paper that was the closest match we could find, hand cut each Post-It note to the same 3.5” x 5.5” uniform size, developed our own sticky method of making sure David Schwimmer would be able to actually use and re-use the notes if needed, attached the questions to the back and then diligently recreated the handwriting from the original board that was in the TV show.

Check out the trivia board in action in the clip above!

The 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards - (The “Pandemmys”)

David Spade as “Joe Exotic” from Tiger King Emmys Segment

For The Pandemmys (aka the Emmys in 2020) I had a unique opportunity to work on two segments. I sourced costumes and hair pieces to dress David Spade as pandemic-hit star “Joe Exotic” from the “Tiger King” series, as well as found his prison backdrop to really solidify that “calling from jail” look.

A clip of this Joe Exotic bit can be found in Tiger King vol. 2!

“We’re Ready for 2021” Reese Witherspoon & Kerry Washington Emmys Segment

For the other bit I was involved in for the 2020 Primetime Emmys, I had a larger, more creative, hand in. Since when we filmed it was October, 2021 glasses were not out in stores yet and when our Amazon shipment full of NYE supplies got delayed, we had to think creatively and quickly to find a solution for our “2021 has Come Early” segment. The night before, with my own materials, I created a New Year’s banner (we thankfully ditched the “HAPPY”). And on the morning of our show I went to Target and painstakingly created two custom “2021” glasses for Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon to wear - under an hour and out of the trunk of my car in a Target parking lot.

I took sticky glitter letters, put them on card stock and carefully cut around them so no card stock would show. Finally, I super glued everything together, let them dry, wore them to make sure they were functional, and then delivered the “New Years box,” which I filled with additional NYE party supplies, to Reese Witherspoon’s home for the segment. My work was not only on TV that day, but my glasses and decor made it’s way to both of their Instagram stories as well!
